What it is like to be a trance medium

Being a trance medium and self-employed

It may surprise you to know that I only work nine months of the year (approx). Due to two things: 1 - being a trance medium and 2 - being both the product and the entire workforce.

Being a trance medium

You may not know, but I trained initially as a mental medium and worked professionally as one while developing trance. When working as a clairvoyant, I could see lots of clients in a day but no so as a trance medium. Even with training and good stamina, I only do 4-5 hours of trance in a day (usually 3 days a week). Ensuring I keep the quality at the highest. When I try to do more, I can become too tired, and this affects the work.

I know, it looks effortless but in reality, it does take physical effort as well as burning through vitamins, minerals, water and vital energy from your body and system. Fans of Esther Hicks know she only works for an hour then takes a 20-minute break then does another hour. Due to the energy and maintaining the connection/blending.

I can work up to two hours in one session (no stop); as Chou and I do for his masterclasses. Hence, my use of the word 'stamina' earlier on. It took years to build up the strength to maintain the trance state and to blend for that long in a single session. Before you ask, I don't offer two-hour-long consultations. It isn't because of the trance; it is because of my spine (it doesn't appreciate it).

Being self-employed

As I have worked at the College of Psychic Studies for over 15 years, I aware that I am one of only a few tutors who is self-employed and works for Spirit full-time. Being self-employed is tough at times. Nowadays, the greatest challenge is the admin and marketing.

In the three months, I have off I am doing a mixture of resting and catching up with paperwork. Not very exciting, but necessary. One of the downsides of working in a trance is that I am not present; of course, this is vital for the work but not great for admin. Jumping between 'trance consultation mode' and 'admin mode' is quite tough. Trance requires you get into the zone, not only during the session but for the whole day when I am seeing clients (it's a mindset thing).

However, this does mean that on client days, shifting my focus to answering emails and messages can be a challenge. Hence, I take about six weeks each year to do paperwork!

I am not complaining! I am very fortunate to be able to work in this way - both as a trance medium (which is a privilege) and only seeing clients for nine months of the year. I know I am looked after by Spirit as well as honouring the need for self-care and personal responsibility.

If you are considering having a have a trance consultation be mindful that I work: - mid-Jan to mid-Apr, mid-May to mid-Aug and mid-September to mid-December.
