The Art of Raising Children
Master Chou presents the next instalment in addressing the Soul and its journey, and how to create balance in our lives and in our world. Here, he starts by defining what makes a child a child and the key points along the way from childhood to adulthood. We are gently led through making the choice to have a child and the personal responsibility that goes with raising a child in a twenty-first century environment. We are reassured that we are not designed to automatically have all of the skills needed to parent, and that that is ok.
The talk moves from pregnancy, and the care and support required as a new soul comes in, through the emotional development of the early years, and to the preparation for the teenage years. Master Chou talks with care and understanding of teenagers, and how to parent and shape the adults they are becoming. Teaching them mastery of their own life, helping them prepare to build the future. Then, as you gently hand the baton of responsibility over to the marvellous person you have brought into the world, there is the need to return back to looking after yourself and your own growth.
There is a lot to think about in this talk, whether you are a parent, are thinking of being a parent, or indeed have ever been a child or part of modern society. There is a strong thread of raising yourself here; you may feel that Master Chou is speaking directly to you.

Review
I have been listening to Sarahs talks for a number of years now, and there is always something that speaks directly to me. In the Art of Raising Children, it was initially the concept of 'first raise yourself, but more specifically, it was the discussion around raising teenagers in the modern world. It was the simple idea of holding a space for them, tuning out all the pressure and noise, and giving them the space to be themselves. I honestly feel more relaxed and quietly confident about how to support them in the best way I can. Im under no illusion that it will be an easy ride, but I feel that it can be an enjoyable one.
